Glossary of terms

Terminology relating to eyes, prescription glasses and contact lenses:

Astigmatism - If the cornea, the front surface of the eyeball, is irregularly curved, it cannot focus all the light rays to one point. Some of them will focus in front of, or behind the retina. This causes blurred vision at all distances. Astigmatism often occurs with other vision conditions such as long or short sight.

Long Sight - Long Sight occurs when the power of the eye is too weak or the eyeball is too short. This makes the image focus behind the retina. The eyes may try too hard to focus, causing headaches or soemtimes a squint.

Migraine

Multifocal

Myopia

Normal Vision - If you have normal vision , images are focused exactly onto the retina, giving clear vision at all distances

Short Sight - Short sight occurs when the eyeball is too long or the power of the eye is too strong. This causes the image to focus in front of the retina. Usually, short sighted people can see near objects clearly, but those further away are more blurred.
